When to Start Your Wedding Suit

Choosing the Style of Your Wedding Suit
Wedding suits in Bangkok come in three broad shapes. The rules above get thicker as the outfit gets more formal.
Two-piece
The most versatile choice and the one you are most likely to wear again. In navy or mid grey it moves straight into your working wardrobe after the wedding.
Three-piece
The waistcoat is why three-piece suits photograph well. When the jacket comes off for dinner and dancing you still look dressed rather than like a man in shirtsleeves.
Tuxedo
For evening weddings and black-tie receptions. Satin or grosgrain lapel facing, no belt loops, and a waistcoat or cummerbund at the waist. Less versatile afterwards, unmistakably correct on the night.
Lapel
A notch lapel is the default and the safest. A peak lapel is more formal and more assertive, and suits a three-piece well. A shawl collar belongs on a tuxedo rather than a day suit.
Colour
Navy and charcoal photograph reliably in almost any light. Mid grey is excellent for daytime garden weddings. Black is standard for tuxedos but can read as severe on a groom in daylight. Deep green and burgundy have become common for grooms and photograph far better than most people assume.
Fabric for Wedding Suits in Bangkok
This is where local knowledge matters most. A wedding suit here has to survive an outdoor ceremony, photographs in direct sun, and hours of dancing, often in the same afternoon.
Tropical weight wool
Our usual recommendation for wedding suits in Bangkok. An open weave lets air move through the cloth while still holding a sharp line, and wool recovers from creasing far better than cotton or linen.
Wool and mohair
Mohair adds a subtle sheen and noticeably more resilience to creasing. Well suited to evening receptions, and a good tuxedo cloth.
Linen
Genuinely cool and beautiful in daylight, but it creases within minutes of sitting down. For a beach or garden ceremony that is part of the charm. For a formal ballroom it is the wrong choice.
Heavier English worsteds
Excellent cloth, sharp silhouette, wrong hemisphere. If your wedding is in Thailand, save these for a suit you will wear somewhere cooler.
